From Hanover Roots To Systems, Story, And Service

Jermaine A. Pusey grew up in Hanover, Jamaica, then crossed borders, careers, and seasons of pressure. Each stage shaped a builder who treats communication, technology, and housing as ways to protect families.

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” Bob Marley

Roots, Responsibility, And A Different Definition Of Strength

Hanover years

Jermaine was born in 1981 in Hanover, Jamaica. Most childhood memories sit between school, church, and watching his mother move from market stall to hotel craft shop. His father faced kidney failure for much of that time, so leadership at home flowed through his mother.

She ran wedding boutiques and craft locations across hotel corridors. Inventory, staff, and bills lined up on the same kitchen table. Jermaine watched a woman carry grief, numbers, and customers without pause. Ambition for him came wrapped in duty.

From call floor to command line

Before cloud diagrams and data centers, he stood in front of call center teams. As a corporate trainer for XM Radio he learned how tone, pause, and presence change customer outcomes. During that season he passed his first Microsoft Certified Professional exam on Windows 2000.

Migration to Canada in 2007 brought long waits for documents. He spent those days with self-study guides spread across a small Toronto apartment. His brother funded exam fees with one rule. “If you pass, I pay for the next one. If you fail, we stop. We have no money to waste.” Pressure turned into focus.

Moments That Shifted The Path

Direction • Loss • Decision
Early dream
Architecture door closed, drive stayed

Jermaine gained admission to Lexington Community College in 1999 for architecture. Family finances and his father’s health blocked that route. Pain sat heavy, yet the desire to design structures moved later into networks and systems instead of buildings.

Bookshelf reset
From short temper to studied communication

During his time with CRH Americas, direct Jamaican bluntness clashed with corporate culture. Feedback hurt, then sparked change. He devoured titles such as How to Talk to Anyone, How to Win Friends and Influence People, The First Minute, The Power of Positive Thinking, and The 48 Laws of Power. Progress followed, yet a gap surfaced. Those guides helped, though they spoke from angles that missed his context. That gap later birthed Communication Is NOT a Competition.

Border wall
TN visa denial to degree pursuit

A U.S.–Canada border officer once declined a TN renewal and said Jermaine did not deserve the role without a degree. That sentence cut deep. The same week he enrolled at Western Governors University. A BSc in Cloud Computing followed, then an MS in IT Management, and later doctoral work at Columbia International University.

Family and legacy
Marriage, fatherhood, and provision

Marriage to Patricia and the birth of their son Jaden framed every decision after. Tech choices, rental deals, and writing sessions flow through one filter. Create a safer runway for family and model emotional strength for the next generation of men.

Words to world
First book launch

On May 7, 2024, Communication Is NOT a Competition reached readers. Years of conflict, audit logs, and hallway conversations turned into a guide for people who feel unheard or always on defense. That release opened the door for the They Say series, Oops! children’s stories, Lunar Veil, and more.

New base
Florida move and brand launch

After seasons in Toronto and Atlanta, Jermaine and his family moved to Florida in October 2024. A year later, in June 2025, he launched his communication brand and stepped forward as an author with a full catalog and speaking vision.
